Hello KGHA families,
My name is Robbie Moreland, and I am excited and honoured to serve as the Head Coach of the U11A Kanata Rangers for the 2026-27 season.
I have been involved with the KGHA for the past five seasons, coaching at levels ranging from U7 to U13. This year will be my second season as a competitive team head coach, and I am grateful for the continued opportunity to work with our athletes and their families.
I coach because I am passionate about building a positive, rewarding, and development-focused environment for the girls. My goal is to create a space where players can challenge themselves, build confidence, grow as teammates and individuals, and most importantly have fun.
Coaching Philosophy
For the upcoming season, our team culture will be grounded in three core values:
1. Respect
Respect is the foundation of everything we do. Players will be expected to show respect for their teammates, Coaches, Officials, Opponents, and themselves We win with class, and we lose with class.
2. Effort
Effort is always within each player’s control. I will encourage every athlete to bring their best effort to practices, games, and off-ice sessions—regardless of the outcome. A strong work ethic is one of the greatest tools a young player can develop.
3. Attitude
A positive attitude is contagious. Whether we are in a tight game, facing adversity, or celebrating success, maintaining a positive outlook helps build resilience and strengthens team unity. Players who stay upbeat and solution-oriented elevate everyone around them.
Season Commitment & Structure
Families can anticipate 3-5 team activities per week, which include, practices, league games and the occasional off-ice training sessions.
For the 2026-27 season, the projected team fee is $2,100 and will vary depending on the level of fundraising and sponsorship efforts. Please note these fees are in addition to the KGHA registration fees.
Additional costs may include any items needed to meet KGHA competitive dress code.
Our team is planning to participate in 4-5 tournaments, including:
· Etobicoke’s Pink the Rink (October)
· KGHA Home Tournament (November)
· Additional events to be confirmed as the season approaches
Tryout Information (Link to Tryout Schedule)
Tryouts begin the moment players arrive at the rink. Evaluators will be looking not only at hockey skills, but also how players:
· Interact with peers
· Communicate with instructors
· Conduct themselves around parents and staff
· Demonstrate our core values of Respect, Effort, and Attitude
While we aim to select the most skilled combination of players, team culture matters. Athletes who best embody our season philosophy will be given strong consideration.
Tryouts will include a mix of:
· Individual skill assessments
· Compete-level drills
· Small-area scrimmages and game-like scenarios
My goal is to ensure that every player feels welcomed, supported, and given a fair opportunity to show their strengths.
Thank you for your ongoing support of KGHA and of these hardworking, dedicated young athletes. I look forward to meeting all the players and families soon and wish everyone a great start to the tryout season.
