U11C Coach's Letter

Dear Kanata Rangers U11C players and parents,

My name is Brian Cummings, and I am excited to be the U11C head coach for the upcoming 2026/2027 season. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the team and I would like to share a bit about myself, my philosophy, and my plan for the upcoming season.

Like many of you, I started playing hockey at a young age, and it started a passion for the sport that continues today. I grew up in the Ottawa area playing hockey on various teams up until I was 18. For the next decade I shifted my focus to athletics, which included competing and coaching at international levels. For the last 7 years I have been back behind the bench coaching with KGHA & KMHA from U7-U11. I also regularly run youth “dry land” or “off ice” sessions for some of the teams I have been involved with.

My coaching philosophy is based around development, work ethic, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. I believe that the life lessons you can learn from hockey are invaluable and go well beyond sport to play a pivotal role in future success. That is why my focus will be creating a safe and positive environment for everyone to become a better player and better person.

There is a commitment with playing competitive hockey at all levels, both financially and time. In addition to the KGHA registration fees, there would be team fees that will range from$1,800-$2,200 before any fundraising. These fees would go towards; tournament registration fees, extra ice, development coaches, team events etc. The team budget does not cover travel costs for away tournaments. The budget would be reviewed with families at the beginning of the season. There is also a time commitment with playing competitive hockey in both how often we will be on the ice 3-4 times a week, as well as arrival time prior to games and practices. This will also be reviewed with parents at the beginning of the season.

We can expect to have roughly 4 tournaments (2 local, 2 away) for the upcoming season that will provide our players a wide range of competitiveness against different teams. One of the away tournaments will be Pink the Rink in Etobicoke in October. Other times, locations, and dates will be provided once available.

I am extremely excited to get the new season started and enthusiastic to share my passion for hockey with your child for the upcoming year.

Sincerely,

Brian Cummings

U11C Head Coach
