U18BB Coach's Letter-Summerfield

Dear Parents and Players,

My name is Nick Summerfield, and I am excited to introduce myself as one of the U18BB coaches for the upcoming 2026-2027 hockey season. This will be my 12th year coaching competitive hockey. I look forward to working with the players as they continue their development both as hockey players and young adults.

Our Program Philosophy

At the U18BB level, our focus shifts toward advancing individual skill development while emphasizing team play and compete level. Players at this age group (15-17 years old) are at a crucial stage where tactical understanding, hockey IQ, and competitive drive become as important as technical skills. Our program will challenge each player to elevate their game while fostering a strong team-first mentality.

Season Commitment & Schedule

Training Schedule: Players can expect an average of 4 ice times per week throughout the season. This includes practices, games, and skill development sessions. We will also have a weekly off ice workout.

Tournament Schedule: We are planning 4 - 5 tournaments for the season not including provincials. These tournaments provide excellent opportunities for team building, skill application under pressure, and exposure to different competition levels.

Financial Investment

The estimated cost for the U18BB program will be in the $2,000 - $2,500 range. This investment covers ice time, tournament fees, and other program-related expenses. Detailed cost breakdowns will be provided at the start of the season.

Development Focus

While we will continue progressing fundamental skills, our primary emphasis will be on:
- Team systems and tactical play
- Competitive habits and mental toughness
- Leadership development
- Hockey IQ and decision-making under pressure
- Physical and mental preparation for higher levels of hockey

Expectations

Success in our program requires commitment from both players and families. Players are expected to arrive prepared, work hard, support teammates, and represent KGHA with pride both on and off the ice. Parents play a crucial role in supporting this environment through positive encouragement and trust in the development process.

Communication

I believe in maintaining open communication throughout the season. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Sincerely,
Nick Summerfield KGHA U18BB Head Coach
